There have been three major interpretations of Jesus' death in the Bible – his death was substitutionary, his death defeated evil, and his death provides an example for how we are to serve others self-sacrificially. In this sermon Aaron explores the biblical foundation of all three and teaches what they mean for how we understand how God thinks of us and what his plans are for rescuing his creation.

Readings and sermon were delivered by Pastor Aaron Mueller.

Join us Wednesday, November 1st at St. James Fellowship Hall for a midweek fellowship meal, communion and praise music!

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is underway! What is Operation Christmas Child? People pack shoebox gifts to bless children in need around the world. After receiving a shoebox gift, children can enroll in a 12-lesson follow-up discipleship program, “The Greatest Journey.” As a result of what they learn, boys and girls grow in Christ and share Him with others! Please take a shoebox, label and instructions from the narthex or downstairs and return it to church no later than November 12th. These shoeboxes should be packed, wrapped and returned by November 12th. For more information about youth events or to get involved with the Youth Ministry Team please contact Stacey Staake.

New Adult Bible Study

A new adult Bible study will be starting November 1st at 10:45 AM. This study will cover the book “When Helping Hurts,” How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor, by Steve Corbett & Brian Fikkert. This book is available in print, Kindle format and Amazon Audiobook. Please contact the church office for more information.

Mercy Ministries

Glen-Ed Pantry suggests you “TP the Pantry” in October. Toilet paper, paper towels as well as hygiene products are basic needs for everyone but are not covered by SNAP (Food Stamps). By donating these items, you help our families’ dollars to go much further. Please drop donations in the basket at the top of the stairwell. Thank you!

Ministry Planning

The ministry planning team is hard at work preparing for our Congregational Event to be held on Thursday, November 16th at 6:00 PM. This is an exciting opportunity for our congregation and everyone is encouraged to attend. Everyone is invited, from those new at St. James to longtime attenders, from students to seniors, from volunteers to leaders. Your input and attendance are vital to this process.

What opportunities has the Lord laid before St. James Church and how will they shape our future? How will you be engaged? Come, add your voice to the discussion at our Congregational Event. Dinner and child care will be provided. Please contact Cheryl in the church office to sign up. cheryl@stjamesglencarbon.org or 618-288-6120.
