One mistaken notion about Christianity is that its primary goal is to foster good ethical behavior. But the biblical reality is that Christianity is fundamentally God’s plan to rescue his humans and creation as a free act of grace. This grace is both necessary (since we humans have rebelled against God we have rendered ourselves unable to do anything to make ourselves right) and loving (God is completely unobligated to do anything to rescue us but does so because of his deep love and commitment to us).
