The question, why does God allow me to suffer, has many possible biblical answers. The overwhelming answer in Paul's second letter to the Corinthians is that our brokenness and weakness makes us rely on the sufficiency of God's grace in Jesus, allows the strength of God to take center stage in our own weakness, and allows us to boast and praise not about ourselves but about the cross of Jesus.
