God calls Israel to himself in order to make them a kingdom of priests. The guarantee and goal of this covenant is his presence in their midst, living in the tabernacle and making his dwelling with them. Ultimately, the tabernacle is a sign and promise of the future presence of God with his people in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the second person of the Trinity.
