Although God himself is the king of Israel, they also long for a human king. So God gives them David. Eventually these two streams – God as king and a human as king – come together in God's Son and David's son, Jesus of Nazareth. Because of his kingdom, all our hopes for a human being to rescue us, protect us, and fulfill us are fulfilled in him.
