Jesus intentionally delays going to Lazarus' sickbed because he wants to wait until he's dead so that he can heal him. Knowing he's going to heal him doesn't mean he takes his friend's death lightly though – Jesus is deeply affected and moved by the grief surrounding Lazarus' demise. But because he himself is the resurrection, he can bring new life out of that pain.
