Okay, ‘who has the final word’ in your family? The parable of the Weeds in Matthew 13 isn’t about your family or my family, it is about the reign of God in this broken topsy turvy world wherein the devil continues to plant his evil temptations around us to the point that we don’t even know who is a boy and who is a girl, or for that matter, will AI redefine ‘what it means to be a human being in Christ’?

In the first part of the Parable of the Weeds Jesus tells a following crowd this analogy of a master who plants good seed in his field, and while he was sleeping along came his enemy and planted weeds amongst the good seed. But don’t worry the master will have the final word. Jesus now turns to His disciples to explain the Parable of the Weeds so that they can be assured that the reign of God is ongoing, unchanging and that in the end, those pesky weeds sown by the sons of the evil one, the Devil, which live amongst us tempting us in every way in order to separate us from worship and witnessing the love of God in Christ Jesus, will meet their Maker.

For the reign of God is real and now, and He will have the final word: the evil, devilish ‘weeds’ will be bundled up and cast into hellish fire, while the wheat, the righteous ones in Christ will shine forth like the sun in the reign of their Father in heaven.

Metro East Lutheran High School Matching Grant

Lutheran Foundation has generously agreed to match every dollar donated to the MELHS endowment fund with three dollars, up to $750,000. This money will be used to provide financial aid to students who need it, helping to make Lutheran education affordable for every family. We will support this initiative with a door offering today and through the end of July. You can give by writing a check to St. James and putting MELHS in the memo line or through Tithe.ly online by selecting MELHS Matching Grant Fund.

Glen-Ed Pantry "Pack the Bus" Donations

During the month of July, Glen-Ed Pantry is collecting school supplies for students of the families they serve. Backpacks filled with required supplies will be handed out to pantry families on August 12.

You can support Glen-Ed Pantry’s Back-to School Supply Drive by:

  • Donating items in the collection basket St. James Lutheran Church.
  • Ordering school supplies through Amazon or Walmart from Glen-Ed Pantry’s wish list or
  • Making a cash donation. These donations will help provide funds to give each student a $25 gift card for shoes at Payless Shoes or will be used to purchase PE Uniforms required by District 7.

Most needed school supplies: backpacks with laptop pockets, combination locks, scientific calculators, 7 inch scissors, plastic folders, spiral notebooks.
