Although Jesus' disciples are hungry and worn out, he commands them to feed the massive crowd which has gathered to hear his teaching. The disciples are perplexed by their lack of resources and ability to do this, but Jesus meets the need by turning a small amount of food into a large amount of food. But when Jesus does this he also allows and empowers the disciples to deliver the food to the people. In other words, they keep his command to feed them but only because he miraculously made the impossible meal himself.
