Paul writes 1 Corinthians 5 to address the way the church of Corinth had neglected to hold accountable a man in the congregation who was having sex with his stepmother. Paul first points out how this sexual sin had not only violated God's will in Scripture but also the standards to which the unbelieving Corinthian culture themselves held. Paul then addresses the deeper problem with their tolerance of this sexual sin: their pride. And finally Paul points them toward the biblical standard of God's will, the lordship of Jesus over all creation (including human sexuality), and the self-sacrificial love of Jesus who became our Passover Lamb to rescue us from slavery to all sin.

Ministry Spotlight – St. James Community Groups

Community Groups Deacon: Shanna Covarrubias

Community Groups at St. James offer diverse opportunities for Christian fellowship, scripture study, and prayer in small group settings, meeting in locations convenient for their members such as coffee shops, homes, and the church. They gather at various times, some during the day and others in the evening, on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to accommodate different schedules. Children are welcome, with babysitting provided.

Currently, there are five active groups, each designed to meet the specific needs of its participants. These groups are a fantastic way to connect with the St. James family, build relationships, and grow in faith together. For more information or to join a group, contact Shanna Covarrubias at Shannacovarrubias@saintjamesglencarbon.org or call the church office.
