The gap between how great God is and his desire that we take great delight in him and his work is met by the eternal promise he makes with his servant Abraham. This covenant commits God to us in such a way that, while we're called to serve him in fear and joy, he himself takes all the risk and even the punishment of breaking the covenant. He proves this by becoming human and dying on a cross to pay the covenant's violation for us.
